  • A remark by Jaya Bachchan at a social event has given Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackery a reason to re-ignite the issue close to his heart and the elections — to oppose north Indians and favour the language of the land, Marathi.

Mumbai, the financial capital of India, is in the grip of violence & turmoil these days. All because of a novice politician who is hell-bent on proving himself as the greatest savior of Maratha pride second only to the legendary great Shivaji of 17th Century.

  • In a fresh salvo against superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s family, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena today vowed to block release of all films featuring any of its members in Maharashtra till Jaya Bachchan tenders an unconditional apology over her alleged anti-Marathi remarks.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray also asked Maharashtrians to boycott all products endorsed by the Bachchans accusing them of having “poison in their minds” for Marathi people.

Not a single film involving the Bachchan family would be allowed to be released in Maharashtra, he said.

Though Raj has been miffed with Jaya, a Rajya Sabha member, for some time after the actress at a press conference earlier this year denied knowledge of his very existence what prompted this hardening of posture against Bollywood’s Family No. 1 is Jaya’s remarks over use of Hindi by north Indians.

An apparent off-the-cuff remark by her at a film promo party on September six has evoked the strong reaction from the MNS chief.

“She has said that she doesn’t know who Raj Thackeray is… Now, she will know”, the MNS chief said.

Jaya had said “hum UP ke log hai, hume Hindi mein baat karni chahiye (we are from Uttar Pradesh and should speak in Hindi). Maharashtrians should pardon us for speaking in Hindi”, she had added.

There was speculation that the barb was aimed at Raj Thackeray who had in the past launched a tirade against her husband over his alleged bias for native Uttar Pradesh while ignoring Maharashtra, the Bachchans’ ‘karmabhoomi’.
